• When it comes to your web presence you have A LOT of decisions to make in order to be web ready. There are layers of strategy including design, programming,  copy (the written content of all marketing, promotional and advertising materials) and strategy to get visitors to the site. That’s why it’s so important to make solid choices when it comes to building your site and creating your content. AND it all needs to be planned strategically (a piece many miss because the process of creating, maintaining and updating an online presence can be so overwhelming.)

    One of the things that many of my preferred clients struggle with then you come my way is web copy and strategy. Some of the common challenges include (and often people don’t tell you this):

    Missing pieces: Often you’ve been given pieces of the online marketing puzzle but things just aren’t quite clicking (as in click through rates are low and copy isn’t converting). 
    No clear strategy: Another common scenario is lack of strategy on EVERY page of the website (yes, you need an overall strategy and an individual page strategy).
    Overwhelm: You see often it’s such a chore to get the website up and running (coordinating with webmasters, choosing domain names, writing copy and finalizing design) that by the time the site launches you’re just burnt out on looking at it.

    Two of the biggest struggles, and often blind spots,  people face when it comes to web presence are — Strategy and  “Website Shame“. Without a clear strategy we can become stuck (overwhelmed) and when this happens it’s a challenge to know where to start. We know our websites need to be created or updated to engage, build relationships and generate new business. But when we are stuck… nothing happens.  The best thing to do is to set aside some time to strategize about your online presence. Figure out if you need to create a new website or perhaps transfer your current html based site to the WordPress platform.

You’ve hit a juicy topic here Lisa – I agree and have been in the overwhelm boat myself – even with a clear strategy sometimes things get delayed and the execution doesn’t go as well as hoped and then we get caught in the “just get it live and done” boat.     2. Wow Lisa, you said it: Website Shame is tops. I had it, but NO more…I love my site now. But, this is critical for entrepreneurs as it will keep you from even promoting your business or yourself. And, when you do, you’ll disclaim “Oh, I’m working ON my new website.” I’ve heard some biz owners say this for months. Your article hit home…loved it!…pep

        Yes strategy is KEY. That’s why I say Copy is QUEEN and Strategy is KING. Without strategy even the best copy in the world won’t work. You must drive traffic to your copy online in order for it to perform.

    7. Such key components of a website. Most people jump right in, not thinking through what their strategy is and what results they want. Doing this upfront can save so much time, energy and frustration!

    8. Strategy and planning is the most important part of the website design and creation process. If it just looks pretty and doesn’t convert, it’s a failure. If it’s got great copy and horrible design, it’s a failure.

      You must have a strategy behind each decision made when it comes to your website, or you’ll be redoing it over and over again.

    9. Strategy is key. I’m glad you pointed out that you need an overall strategy and a strategy for each individual page. Most people don’t think about how their website is really going to work for them or how all of their marketing pieces fit together.
