Here’s The Rest of the Story and WHY Marketing With Integrity is So Important for YOUR Business

I’ve been working with words, marketing and advertising for literally as long as I can remember. When I was a small child, we only received signals from two television stations and watched the tube on an old black and white model with modified rabbit ear antennas. My exposure to advertising and marketing was limited to the two television channels and few radio stations. I can still remember watching commercials at a very young age and thinking “I can do better than that.” Click here to get the quick factsEven then advertisers and marketers were missing the mark (and even as a child, I could see that). Fast-forward to today and I’ve been successfully running WriteOnCreative.com and in business for myself since 2003 (you do the math; I’m not a numbers person). The success of my business has largely occurred because I’m in-tune with current trends and intuitively know what’s working and what’s not working. AND, I challenge the norm. Just because “everyone” is doing something doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do – especially for highly creative and conscious entrepreneurs. That’s why it’s important to create marketing messages with integrity based on your own values.  Here’s what I’ve found…

“There’s a NEW Marketing Model for Success!”

While copy (the written part of all of your marketing, promotional and advertising materials) is still the foundation of how you get your message out to the world, I challenge the age old industry adage that “Copy is King.” I’ve found that copy is actually QUEEN and content strategy is KING and together they are the key to creating strong and effective results. Even the best copy in the world won’t work if you don’t have a strategy in place. Think of strategy as masculine energy and copy as feminine energy – both are vital but if they are not working together it’s a struggle. In fact, many copywriters and marketers underestimate the importance of strategy and that’s often why campaigns fail.

I’ve also found that the traditional copywriting formula of “Problem. Agitate. Solve.” isn’t resonating with women. Women are looking for solutions to their challenges. What’s really working is the new copywriting formula of “Challenge. Solution. Invitation.”

In the traditional formula we highlight the issue, we agitate that issue to focus on the pain points (when was the last time being agitated prompted you to make a buying decision?) and then we solve the problem. I believe people are in enough pain. We don’t need to be agitated to make a decision. In fact, especially for women, when someone acknowledges our challenges (and really understands where we’re coming from), provides a helpful solution and extends a friendly invitation, we’re more likely to take action. Nothing truly flows when it comes from a place of pain and fear…

Not only do pain and fear cause energetic blocks that cause us not to buy, they also cause us to feel stuck when creating our marketing messages. When there is uncertainty it’s very difficult to create a clear, compelling and succinct message. I believe it comes down to societal programming especially for women. I actually wrote an article about this. Did you know that the old Victorian saying, “Children should be seen and not heard,” was originally coined specifically for female children? While doing research for one of my published articles I discovered this. It wasn’t too surprising. We’ve been taught to be humble, not brag, downplay our accomplishments, etc. So, when we’re really stepping into something new and becoming the change we want to see in the world it can feel a bit counter intuitive. For women especially, we are also making history. We’re starting more businesses and often we don’t have role models to follow so we have to overcome fear and step into leadership.

I invite you to take a moment and pause to think about the fact that as women we are making history. We have to be leaders. The world is changing and what we are doing today has really never been done before. This means we have to create new models for success. You have to find your voice and quit blindly following others. In fact, I want you to say this out loud right now, “Mentors are not Gods!” If you follow others without question you lose yourself. I know, I’ve been guilty of it, too.

Many of us are navigating unchartered territory and creating new business models that didn’t exist before. Plus, we’re inundated with so many marketing messages every day and there are many so called “gurus” who we could follow it can become overwhelming and we second guess ourselves (that goes back to societal and familial programming). We really need to listen to ourselves. I invite you to take a moment right now and give yourself permission to do things differently and lead the way. In fact, please say this out loud, “I am making history. I give myself permission to do things differently and to lead the way.”

“Find Your Voice, Declare Your Niche
and Create Your Marketing Messages
With Integrity to Really Make a Difference!”

There are three key areas you must address when it comes to creating marketing messages with integrity and all of them have to do with clarity.

You must be clear about your true voice. This is based on your values, mission and your story.

We must be absolutely clear about our values, our personal mission and our business mission. It’s also helpful to get clear on our vision. We need to know what matters most to us (values), we need to be clear about what we do in the world (mission) and we need to have a big picture perspective on how we want to facilitate change (vision). This is true personally and professionally. I revisit these three areas at least once a year and have a process that helps me get really clear. Finally, you must find your true voice and tell your story in a way that truly connects with your ideal clients. This section of the self-study program will help you:

  1. Identify or revisit your core values so you’re absolutely CLEAR about what truly motivates you and how you can best be of service to others
  2. Get a solid foundation to create your personal mission statement and business mission statement based on your values so everything is energetically congruent
  3. Revisit, craft and create your story (facts tell, stories sell — by BEing who you truly are and sharing your TRUTH you’ll easily attract your ideal clients

You must be clear about who you are meant to serve. This means clearly identifying your ideal client (no more waffling – yes, YOU!)

It takes courage to DECLARE your purpose (aka niche) and it’s a process that takes time and evolves. You must honor the process. Often fear gets in the way of making the right decision and really owning what we’re here to do.
