According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, by definition, legacy can mean one of two things.  1)  a gift by will especially of money or other personal property (bequest) 2)  something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past (the legacy of the ancient philosophers) Beyond definitions, perception and profession often dictate how we view and approach legacy. For example: Some will hear the word “Legacy” and immediately think of wealth, money and material assets. This is true for people who have accumulated impressive amounts of wealth and need to manage their legacy via investments, living trusts, bequests, creating foundations and/or donating to nonprofit organizations. Others will hear the word “Legacy” and think about lasting impact in the form of instilling values, writing books, sharing philosophies, or creating bodies of work that support people, planet and place […]

Stolen ideas have been on my mind lately. Because you are reading this blog, you are likely a mover, shaker and change maker. This means you think differently than most people. Like me, you’re tired of the cookie cutter, paint by number systems as they don’t apply to your unique calling and mission. So, to break away from the crowd you do things on your own terms and often that means you need a new perspective and ways to look at your business that maybe you have not thought about before. In fact, you probably find yourself listening to audio books, reading, participating in training, courses or workshops, and realizing “oh my GOSH, it’s like this person’s in my head!”. This has happened to me on more occasions than I can count. It’s both exciting and frustrating. […]

Why did you start your business? Or, why start a business if you’re not already an entrepreneur? This is an important questions and one that should not be taken lightly. When I decided to start my business in 2003 it was not a decision that I took lightly. It meant letting go of a career I loved (for multiple reasons and mostly for the sake of my health and happiness).  I worked for a premier ad agency at that time and submitting my resignation meant I had to say goodbye to clients I admired, respected and whom I had spent years helping build their brands and businesses (and I had to admit that the way I’d been working was burning me out which was a hard thing to share — I liked to think that nothing could phase […]

Ever tried to force something that doesn’t fit? That’s often referred to as trying to push a square peg into a round hole. You might eventually get it to work but it’s not really a fit. This doesn’t mean it’s right or wrong. It just means it’s not a fit for YOU and this is something to pay close attention to. I’d like to invite you to assess what you’re doing in your business and life and get CLEAR on what’s a fit and what isn’t. It will make all the difference in the world.  Consider ways you can tap into your passion to create more fun and profit. Recently I let go of something that wasn’t a fit for me. Within one week my health improved, I felt lighter I released stress that was bogging me […]

How long have you been in business? I’m genuinely curious because this month we’re celebrating 12 years in business for Write On Creative. AND to be fully transparent, it hasn’t always been a cake walk, although there has been some great cake along the way. I remember what it took to get to where I am today. This included: *bootstrapping to build my business *working a part-time day job to fund my business *trying to figure out who to trust *learning hard lessons *celebrating big triumphs *experiencing the roller coaster of inconsistent cash flow *considering throwing in the towel or getting a job (after I’d let go of the part-time day job) The list goes on… You see running a business isn’t for the faint of heart. Although I have a deep passion for what I do, […]

How do you rate your overall well-being? Based on extensive studies Gallup identified five essential elements of well-being. According to Gallup these elements are the currency of life that matter but they do not include every nuance of life instead they help enhance life. The five essential elements of well-being are as follows: The first element is about how you occupy your time or simply liking what you do every day: your Career Well-being. The second element is about having strong relationships and love in your life: your Social Well-being. The third element is about effectively managing your economic life: your Financial Well-being. The fourth element is about having good health and enough energy to get things done on a daily basis: your Physical Well-being. [TRIGGER ALERT] One of the BIG reasons I rarely watch the news is because it’s sensationalized and focuses on the negative. Honestly, it’s mostly information that doesn’t enhance my life in any way.    Recently there’s been a media storm about celebrity abuse. In fact, there are clips and posts and judgement flying all over social media about why women stay, why women leave, why “it’s” their fault fault and more. It makes me ill on a really deep soul level. It also really triggered something in me about abuse and abusers. I woke up early yesterday morning and I penned this open letter that encapsulates how I was feeling. I decided to post it on Facebook (click the link to read it or share on FB or simply scroll down here to read). In the context of […]

Your word IS your honor. This seems simple and yet it is rather complex. Your words are the foundation of how you choose to show up in life. In fact, a thought becomes a bright idea and when put in writing, words turn ideas into action.  That’s powerful. Your words are powerful. Your thoughts and your words are developed in accordance to your worldview. Your family, friends, the government, media, school systems, your individual experiences, and your interaction with society shape your worldview. Beyond that, your word revolves around your personal values. Your personal values are determined by the meaningful elements of your collective worldview that matter most to you individually. Your values then shape your integrity and they drive all that you do personally and professionally. In general, integrity means the quality of being honest and […]

Often, not knowing how to ask for what you want is exactly what’s preventing you from reaching your goals. What is one of the biggest lessons you’ve ever learned from a past position, resource or your current work? Many years ago I worked in radio sales and became a certified Radio Marketing Master through the Radio Advertising Bureau.  As I look back on over two decades of experience that spans the mediums (radio, print, TV, direct mail, online marketing – -you name it, I’ve likely had experience doing it) one thing stands out. The biggest lesson I ever learned (and probably the most valuable) is how to ask for what I want.  I still remember my sales manager in radio saying “ask you get -don’t you won’t”. She was right and it reminds me of another resource […]

When I think about what is truly beautiful, I think about LIFE. Life IS beautiful. As humans, we take this gift for granted. We busy ourselves with the mundane. Make excuses. Place blame. AND rarely do we stop to really marvel at this miraculous gift that we have been given. It has been said that life has a way of happening when you’re making other plans. I believe that this is true. All too often we try to plan the perfect life, have the perfect career, meet the perfect partner and we focus on the planning and the wanting instead of BEING.  We focus on what we don’t have or what is lacking instead of counting our blessings. When we learn to just BE miracles happen. When we really take time to settle in to the NOW […]
