Have you considered that your business model might not be the best way to promote and market your programs, packages and services?  The maze of marketing options and business models can be confusing especially if you’ve only been given select pieces of the marketing puzzle. The KEY is to determine how you’d like to craft your business and marketing to truly support YOU!  Personally I prefer a lifestyle business that promotes freedom while making money from my passions. James Roche is a trusted friend and colleague. We’ve worked together in several capacities (including when I was a mastermind leader for Ali Brown’s programs and more). Recently James and I had a candid conversation about marketing and lifestyle/freedom-based businesses. The content was so JUICY we decided to record it. When you crave a business that gives you a […]

By being proactive you can create a solid marketing plan for success.  As we grow and evolve this may mean that our business model will change, too. With this in mind, it’s important to create your Content Strategy Plan (aka Internet marketing editorial calendar) at least a quarter in advance.  NOW is THE time to evaluate where you are, where you’ve been and where you’re going. This includes: Reviewing revenue streams and projections Making adjustments as necessary Revisiting strategy and execution To help get the juices flowing I’m sharing a rich resource. I was honored to be interviewed by Jim Nemley on BlogTalkRadio. He is a such a great source of information and inspiration. I could talk to him about marketing and strategy for hours. I’m sharing our interview from Building Your Xtra-Ordinary Business Radio Program here because it’s full […]

How will you design your business so it’s fully supporting you instead of the other way around? (yes, we’ve all been there and IT can change — but it’s up to you). Setting intentions for the New Year is important. Being clear with your intentions is important any time of year and you can change your intentions whenever you want. That’s the beauty of freedom and taking responsibility for your own life. AND, your life should fully support YOU in all areas. I’m not a fan of resolutions. In fact, I resolve not to make resolutions. I feel they lack substance. Instead I make commitments to myself and I set a theme for the year (often selecting theme songs that correspond with my focus but that’s another post). My theme for the past year was “CHANGE”… I took […]

During the holiday season GIFTS are on the brain. You either love this time of year or you’re not that wild about it. There doesn’t seem to be a happy medium. Personally I love the traditions. My tree is a special joy and last year I didn’t put it up so I’m really enjoying it this year (that’s another story). I’m also getting in the spirit by breaking out the holiday cookie recipes and doing some baking. This includes my Oma’s Russian Tea Cake recipe (yummy). On the other hand, I am grossed out by all the commercialism and consumerism during this time. I know, I know… THIS, coming from a marketing person. It’s true, I’d like to see more tradition and less hype and don’t even get me started on the inflatable, plastic yard ornaments (TACKY […]

No matter what time of year it is, it’s important to think about results. In October of 2013 I celebrated the 10 year anniversary of Write On Creative. This caused me to pause and reflect on what’s working and what needs to change. More about that later. First lets look at your business…and your marketing results. Are you secretly wishing for a money tree? There are days that I’d love to have a money tree and I know that’s not going happen. In fact, dreaming about money trees is about as effective as following cookie cutter marketing plans that don’t take your vision, values and mission into consideration. Interestingly enough, your business is a lot like a tree. You must plant the seed and continually water it so it will grow. As it matures there is also […]

I want you to REALLY think about this. Are you living the life you’ve always dreamed of (or is something — maybe even YOU– holding you back)? Recently I attended an India Arie concert (she’s one of my all-time favorite performers). This was the second concert of her new tour after a four-year hiatus. Her music touches my soul and as she shared her story of changing direction because she had been working on a project that didn’t speak to her truth, my wheels started turning. Her comments made me realize that we all have to make tough decisions (sometimes that means letting go of what no longer serves us to do what really fills us up). It also made me realize that it’s OK to change course and get really clear about our truth (and […]

I’m reflecting on the past 10 years in business, those who have greatly influenced  me and considering what’s next. • Do you ever assess how far you’ve come? • Celebrate your successes? • Have any regrets? I’m reflecting deeply on the loss of one of the greatest marketing minds ever. Earlier this week I learned via Facebook that Jay Conrad Levinson has passed. It was via an early morning post from his daughter Amy. I stopped in my tracks and the tears flowed. You see, I will never forget Jay’s kindness. Early in the life span of my business he was a great support. Hearing his life here on earth has ended impacted me greatly. What I’m going to share with you next correlates with #8 of my Top 10 Tips from Being in Biz for 10 […]

It’s hard to believe that what started as a creative spark in October of 2003 is now a thriving business 10 years later. A freedom-based business that supports my core values and allows me to work and play anywhere I choose. There have been a lot of laughs, a lot of tears and a lot of lessons. I’m going to share my top 10 tips for success with you here. 1) Have clear plan and strategy (and know it will change): Know your vision and uphold your mission by putting a plan in place to support your projections. Your marketing strategy is key to the success of your business. Especially for mission-driven entrepreneurs who are creative by nature. You need a road map for success. It’s also important to remember that your plans may change and that […]

Are you READY for the SPOTLIGHT? I’m asking because even if you’re not excited about getting more exposure (media or otherwise), it kind of comes with the territory of owning your BIG MISSION and making a difference. Many years ago the Dalai Lama made a bold statement.  During the Vancouber Peace Summit in 2009 he said “The world will be saved by the western woman.”  It’s a tall order and there could be some truth to that because women do business differently. There are three universal truths about running a business 1. Owning a business isn’t for the faint of heart 2. When you have a BIG MISSION you will constantly be pushed to share it in bigger ways than you ever imagined (even if you always dreamed of being in the spotlight) 3. When you own a […]

Are you on track to accomplish your BIG vision and mission? Often we are so close to our own business vision that we forget how important it is to get outside perspective to move us forward and encourage our growth. Your ability to carry forth your vision increases with planning, strategy, implementation and collaboration. It allows you to anchor in your legacy and create a lasting impact in the world and within your profession. I mention this because, it’s never too early to start planning for your success, the New Year, (even upcoming quarter) or for your next big project.  It’s also important to reassess what you’re doing now (be sure to read my blog post Re-Evaluate, Re-Package Re-Position but don’t Re-brand here ). In fact, I suggest re-evaluating where you are in your business at a minimum […]
