Jenny Scheinman makes her vocal debut on this album. Traditionally you’ll find her working magic on the violin. Now she’s exploring new avenues in her self titled album Jenny Scheinman. I think it’s funky and soulful and I’m not saying that just because we grew up in the same little northern California town in the stix although I do like to support homegrown talent. Check it out. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. I also urge you to grab some of her earlier stuff too.

Destiny's Child

When I say I have eclectic music taste I am not kidding. I listen to a little bit of everything from classical, blues, bluegrass, rock, pop, reggae, country and more. This month I’m featuring Destiny’s Child #1′s. While I don’t love all the tracks, I do LOVE Independent Women. It’s fun, funky and upbeat with an underlying message of success. In fact, I dedicate this to all the independent women I know and the wonderful partners and friends who support you.

Rock On ~ Linda Ronstadt

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Currently I’m digging deep into my collection to pull out some oldies (well, oldies by my definition).

I grew up listening to Linda Ronstadt. I LOVE her. As a little girl, I’d sit in front of my dads record collection and flip through the albums. Ronstadt was ALWAYS my favorite. Not only did I love her music (and still do), I was fascinated with the lyrics and studied them endlessly.

In honor of my youthful passion for music and lyrics, I present Linda Ronstadts Greatest Hits. My personal favorites are “Love is a Rose” and “Different Drum”. However, in my opinion, all of the songs rock. Add her to your collection and you won’t be sorry.

Rock On ~ Yael Naim

By Lisa Manyon, www.lisamanyon.com

If you’ve seen the new Mac Airbook commercial, you’ve probably heard a snippet of Yael Naim. In fact, that’s how I became slightly obsessed with the song (and I’m not even a Mac user).

Then, while in Europe, I heard the entire song on the radio and had to find out more.

A quick Google search provided the info I wanted. Yael Naim receives two thumbs up from me. The song “New Soul” has a sassy groove.

Other tracks on her album feature singing in her native tongue as well as additional songs with English lyrics.

This is definitely worth a listen. Check her out here.

I am a HUGE Joss Stone fan and one of my favorite albums is The Soul Sessions. This lady has soul and her music speaks to mine.

It’s hard to pick a favorite track but currently I am grooving on I’ve Fallen In Love With You.

Personally, I think this is a must have for your music collection.

Rock On ~ Tim O’Brien

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Fittingly, my selection for Rock On is titled “Traveler”. O’Brien was introduced to me courtesy of Ben Howard.

There is something about his style that speaks to me. My personal favorite on this album is called “Let Love Take You Back Again.”

Take a listen. I think you’ll like it.

Rock On ~ India Arie

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

I’m in a bit of a reflective mood right now. When that happens I reach for old standbys from my music collection.

One of my all time favorites is India Arie. All of her stuff is great but this month I am into “Voyage to India” . Though it’s hard to choose a favorite song on this album, I must say I am quite fond of “Slow Down”. After the recent evacuation due to California fires, I am definitely slowing down and taking some time smell the roses.

You can’t lose when you add this to your collection. Check it out here.
