Another fun feature on my blog is the Rock On ~ section where I share music selections that I dig. Beware, my musical taste is quite ecclectic…. Each month I’ll share my current favorite with you and you can check it out to see if you like it, too.

Rock On ~ Chickenfoot

Friday, July 17th, 2009

by Lisa Manyon: www.lisamanyon.com

So, this month I’m taking a break from my “blast from the past” music archives that are loaded on my nifty purple Ipod Nano. In fact, I’m really enjoying the newly released album Chickenfoot that a new friend introduced me to.

Chickenfoot is comprised of vocalist Sammy Hagar (ex-Van Halen and Montrose), bassist Michael Anthony (ex-Van Halen), guitarist Joe Satriani and drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers).

I dig their vibe and am impressed with what they’ve created. A few of my faves so far – “Learning to Fall” and “Future in the Past” – you’ll find hard driving tunes and some mellower songs. Take a listen and let me know what speaks to you.

Rock On ~ Pat Benatar

by Lisa Manyon: www.lisamanyon.com

Talk about a blast from the past. When I loaded all my oldies but goodies onto my cool, purple Nano Ipod I had no idea what a trip down memory lane it would be. That is until I shuffled my tunes and heard Pat Benatar’s “All Fired Up”.

Honestly, not only did it bring back great memories, I have to say I’m all fired up about business and life. The song is featured on Benatar’s Wide Awake in Dreamland album and I highly recommend you join my on my trip down memory lane and take a listen today.

Rock on ~ Porcupine Tree

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

by Lisa Manyon: www.lisamanyon.com

So, I’m still totally digging my purple Ipod Nano but I’m taking a break from my oldies but goodies music collection that is happily loaded on my Ipod – there’s some really good stuff there and I haven’t even loaded my 80’s collection yet. But, I’m taking a break to check out some tunes that were recommended by a friend. One of the coolest things about music is the way we share it with others. I like it when music speaks to someone enough that they want to share. It’s like a mini window into their soul…don’t you think?

In the spirit of sharing, I’m jamming to Porcupine Tree’s album entitled Fear of a Blank Planet. I must admit that I had to listen to the tracks a few times before the music grew on me. It’s edgy with lyrics that intrigue. Yes, I’m a lyric listener – I must pay close attention to the words to really enjoy. Can you guess what my favorite track is? Check it out here and let me know what you think.

Rock on ~ The Very Best of UB40

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

by Lisa Manyon: www.lisamanyon.com

Thanks to new technology – my investment in a cool, purple Nano iPod to be exact, you’re getting an inside glimpse of my music collection. I have to be honest – I still remember the dreaded shift from vinyl to cassettes and then onto CD’s. I resisted getting an iPod because I love to read the lyrics inside the CD jackets. But, alas, the purple iPod Nano won my heart and I’m converting. As I continue to dig deep and pull out my oldies but goodies it’s like getting reacquainted with long-lost friends. Your guess is as good as mine as to what will speak to me next.

This month I’m hanging with The Very Best of UB40 and thoroughly digging the reggae jams. A couple of my favorite tunes – Red Red Wine (which coincidentally I also love to drink) and Tell Me Is It True–these may be my faves but honestly, the entire album makes me want to dance – and dance I do! How about you? Check it out here and let me know what you think.

So, last month I mentioned I’d been digging deep into my music collection to load tunes onto my cool, new purple Nano iPod. Well, I’m still at it and this means you get to find out what some of my oldies but goodies are.

This month I’m rocking to The Best of Big Country. If this music is before your time, it’s NOT country music. I especially love the title track – In a Big Country… So, grab your copy here, take a listen, and let me know what you think.

Rock On ~ Indigo Girls ~ Come On Now Social

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

by Lisa Manyon: www.lisamanyon.com

For this Rock On selection I’m going back in time. I recently grabbed a handful of CD’s from my collection. I specifically picked albums I hadn’t really given the time of day before.

One of them is Indigo Girls ~ Come On Now Social it was originally released in 1999 (I know I need to get some new music and an Ipod but I’m still resisting – hey, I miss vinyl LP’s) and apparently the producer has discontinued this CD. So, I’m glad I have a copy because as I listened to it (while on a road trip) I found some notable and diverse tracks. I love diversity especially in music. So, if you’re brave and can handle hard hitting tracks with lyrics about suffragettes, some fun collaboration by Sheryl Crow and Joan Osborne plus more surprises, grab a copy on Amazon while you still can. I’ll admit this took a couple of listens before I found a few favorites but it’s worth the time.

Rock On ~ Ten Foot Tall and 80 Proof

Monday, October 27th, 2008

By: Lisa Manyon www.lisamanyon.com

I had the pleasure of meeting 10 Foot Tall and 80 Proof and watching them perform live in Montana. First, they’re a great bunch of guys and second THEY ROCK. Seriously, this is one talented group and if you have the chance you must see them LIVE. You can check out their website here and be sure to visit the “music” section of the site. Not only will you have the opportunity to sample their music you can purchase their CD from CD Baby. I’m not even going to tell you which song is my favorite because I’m having a hard time picking one. Take a listen for yourself and catch them live if you can. www.tenfttall.com
