Getting Really Clear About Your Values, Goals and Vision
As the New Year unfolds you’re probably thinking a lot about values, goals and vision (and if you’re not, you’ll probably start after you’re done reading this).
I know being forced to slow down has really made me appreciate life even more (and I already loved life). I firmly believe that we experience whatever comes our way to teach us something.
Being sick for several weeks has been a sign for me to slow down and it’s also been a gift to evaluate what’s working in my life and what isn’t. AND evaluate I have! I know without a doubt that 2012 is a year for change and I’m ready to step up and take action (as soon as I’m 100% healthy again and I’m taking small steps now to get ready). I challenge you to do the same (in a friendly, let’s make changes to support you kind of way).
Take some time to think about what you value most. For me, it’s FREEDOM (well there are a lot of other things, too — like love, family, comfort, friendship etc. but if I had to pick one value for 2012 it’s “freedom”). I think it’s important to be clear about your values, goals and vision. One of the greatest gifts I’ve experienced lately is increased clarity about my mission, vision and BIG goals.
My personal mission statement is: I operate with faith, love and integrity to create security, wealth and interdependence. (Note: Wealth doesn’t just mean money to me it’s about abundance and a rich, happy life) .My personal mission statement carries over to my business mission (supporting interdependence).
My business mission is to give women a voice to turn ideas into something that matters. I infuse faith, love and integrity into everything I do. I love that my ideal clients are entrepreneurs, authors, coaches, speakers and artists. I am delighted that you’re all wildly different yet have one thing in common — a really BIG mission to make a difference in the world. I’m honored to help you articulate that in a way that resonates with your ideal clients in a way that doesn’t feel salesy, icky or pushy.
What is your personal mission statement? Your business mission statement? Are they interdependent? Do they work together to move you towards your BIG vision?
Personally my BIG vision this year to make a change I’ve been wanting to make for over 4 years now — exploring new territory beyond travel. I plan to relocate to the Denver for one year. I’m starting to put that in motion by asking my contacts there for support to find my perfect home, preparing to find tenants for my home and more. I’m getting really excited.
My BIG vision professionally is to help more women get really clear about their message, web strategy and web copy this year. One thing I’ve realized is that many websites are missing strategy and copy to truly connect and it baffles me. At the same time, I feel very blessed to be gifted with the talents to help others gain
clarity. Last week I had three very interesting and FUN experiences – during an Exploratory Consultation, a Manyon Marketing Web Makeover and a 5 Page Web Copy Package strategy session. I was working with three wildly different women, on three different levels but it was all about their web goals and the recurring theme was lack of strategy. It went back to having the big mission and vision but not knowing how to tie it all together to create the ideal messaging (copy) to connect with ideal clients in a way that not only makes sense but also supports YOUR ultimate goal to be of service and profit online. After each of these sessions the women had laser clarity about direction, homework to move forward, clarity to make sure everything they are doing is interdependent and they had also given me the gift of seeing my gift to truly make a difference. This gave me greater clarity about my goals for the year. AND the more specific you are with goals, the more likely you are to achieve them.
When I set my goals I kept my value word “FREEDOM” in mind, considered my personal mission and business mission as well as my BIG vision and I realized in order to help more women, I also have to limit the number of people I serve (this may sound counter intuitive but it’s not. It’s about being clear, setting boundaries and knowing what is best for everyone involved).
So, as we move through the New Year together I hope we’ll have the opportunity to work together.
I’ve created space to help 6 women a week with Manyon Marketing Web Makeovers (I may decide to limit that to 4, stay tuned. There are still a few spots left this month.)
I have room to help 8 savvy women a month create their 5 Page Web Copy Packages.
I’ll still offer my other services and once you invest in working with me you’ll achieve preferred client status, receive rebate opportunities and have the opportunity to access services not available otherwise. I’m just VERY clear that my gift is supporting with web copy and strategy to help my client achieve online success. This will become even more evident and CLEAR when my website revamp is complete, too (I’m excited to share the progress with you when appropriate).
I invite you to grab your favorite notebook and a juicy pen and take some time to think about and ink out…
- Your value word for the year
- Your personal mission
- Your business mission
- Your visionYour specific goals.
Happy planning.

Hi Lisa,
This is a great reminder to me about vision statements. I did some work on my goals last week, but adding in the vision statements is definitely going to add to the strength of my goals and commitment to them.
I’ve missed reading your posts! Glad to be back.
Hugs,
Ellen

Lisa,
This is a great read! I like the one part about “your value word for the year”. Wondering how you came up with your word “FREEDOM”. I need to think of my value word… I recommend business owners have a mission and vision. I am with you on this thought process.
Elevating with you,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Thanks so much. Regarding the word “freedom” — it just feels right for me and encompasses everything I want in my life. Of course, I have many other values and at the same time I’ve created a mobile business model so I can work, live and play anywhere in world. I hope that helps.

Lisa, I wanted to thank you for your inspiring words. I am pleased to have the opportunity to benefit from your wisdom. I am soo excited about this chance to live my own dream and in turn help people with my particular flavor of talent. In a nutshell, like you with words, I can bring out the best potential in my clients with organization, inspiration, motivation and accountability. I am building my Online reputation as well as getting the word out that I am available for all. In that process, my past Team from Idavend have been giving me wonderful recommendations both on linked in and Facebook and I am truly moved by their comments…it is giving me even more confidence that I have made the right choice to share my talent in more than one venue!
I look forward to continuing to be inspired by your words. And in the near future would like your assistance in creating my own Web page. As I did this whole change on a “leap of faith” I am hoping that FB and Linked in as well as my reputation in the community will get the ball rolling. I am still waiting for my business license…but the moment it hits my door…I am hitting the streets to reacquaint myself with all my past clients. I cant wait and am chomping at the bit to GO Go Go!
Thanks again for your inspiration…. I would very much like an opportunity to meet with you soon. You referenced that you have been sick.. I hope this finds you feeling better and back up to 100% soon.

Hi Lisa,
This post came right on time for me. I focus on my business so much and those goals, that I don’t take the time to really focus on my personal goals. I need to decide what my value word will be.
Thanks!

Hi Lynn,
It’s fun to have a value word that can remind us of what we truly want. Otherwise, it’s easy to let our business responsibilities take over leaving little time for personal growth and satisfaction. I’d love to learn more when you decide upon your “word.”

Lisa – I spent quite a bit of time in this arena in the beginning of 2011 – really looking at my mission, vision, and values … and double-checking that I the path I was on was in alignment with them. There are some areas I had to course correct of course
I gained so much clarity by going through these exercises on my own, that I continue to revisit these every six months or so!

Jennifer,
I think revisiting this process regularly is brilliant and necessary. Course correction is common with entrepreneurs. Especially those of us with an over-abundance of ideas and creativity. Sometimes there are too many ideas to implement and some of them could detract us from our true mission.

Love love love this Lisa
Reading this post cements in my mind how important your business mission “to give women a voice to turn ideas into something that matters” is to you. and I love that you use the term “infuse” for how you work – magic!

Thanks Trudy,
I think it’s so important to be wildly different. It’s our individuality that truly sets us apart.
