Rock on ~ The Very Best of UB40

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

by Lisa Manyon: www.lisamanyon.com

Thanks to new technology – my investment in a cool, purple Nano iPod to be exact, you’re getting an inside glimpse of my music collection. I have to be honest – I still remember the dreaded shift from vinyl to cassettes and then onto CD’s. I resisted getting an iPod because I love to read the lyrics inside the CD jackets. But, alas, the purple iPod Nano won my heart and I’m converting. As I continue to dig deep and pull out my oldies but goodies it’s like getting reacquainted with long-lost friends. Your guess is as good as mine as to what will speak to me next.

This month I’m hanging with The Very Best of UB40 and thoroughly digging the reggae jams. A couple of my favorite tunes – Red Red Wine (which coincidentally I also love to drink) and Tell Me Is It True–these may be my faves but honestly, the entire album makes me want to dance – and dance I do! How about you? Check it out here and let me know what you think.

5 Key Reasons Why Copywriting is The Key to Sales Success And Can Boost The Effectiveness of All Advertising & Marketing

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Lisa Manyon, owner of Write On ~ Creative Writing Services, LLC www.LisaManyon.com, shares five key reasons why copywriting is the key to sales success and offers tips to boost the effectiveness of your copy and increase sales.

1. Although it?€™s been said a picture is worth a thousand words, a picture alone isn?€™t going to sell effectively. Products or services (or more aptly put, solutions) need to be supported by copy that focuses on the core benefit to your customers or prospects.
2. Your words (copy or content) must build consumer trust, loyalty and ultimately, win sales. Know your core audience and ensure you?€™re including words that support emotional buying triggers.
3. Your copy is all about relationships. The days of the hard-sell are over. Consumers want more and expect more. By carefully crafting your copy to build relationships you?€™re one step closer to closing the deal.
4. Your copy is an extension of you and your business. What you say is just as important as how you say it. What are you saying?
5. Your copy allows you to offer a solution. When you approach your copy with an attitude of service, it?€™s easier to offer the solutions your customers seek. Include a call to action that solves a problem and you?€™re likely to get better response rates.

Lisa Manyon says ?€?Every business owner needs a solid grasp of the importance of copy regardless of whether or not they plan to write it themselves. This means doing a little research, choosing mentors to mirror, paying close attention to what works and finally choosing the right copywriter for your business needs.?€?

Maggie Keenan, Chief Giving Strategist of www.Givingadvice.com says, ?€?Lisa Manyon?€™s marketing approach is perfect for my business. I am not into ?€?hard sell?€? tactics. At the same time I need my copy to connect with my prospects. Plus, Lisa over-delivers! I?€™m grateful to have her in my corner and cannot wait to realize the results of my new copy will bring.?€?

5 Juicy Tips to Quickly Create Headlines that Draw Your Readers in & Move them Towards the Sale (hint: this means more money for you).

Friday, March 20th, 2009

By: Lisa Manyon www.WriteOnCreative.com

By now you should know headlines are the most important part of copy. At least when it comes to drawing your readers in and keeping them interested.

Here are four quick ways to craft compelling headlines;

  • Offer a solution
  • Tell readers how to do it
  • Ask a question
  • Give a quantifiable number

All of these techniques draw your customer in, engaging them in the relationship building, and ultimately , sales process.  Since headlines are so important, it’s suggested (and often practiced by copywriting experts) that you should write 50 to 100 headlines before choosing the right one but this isn’t always possible (unless you have the Red Hot Copy Headline Creator -which I highly recommend) – especially when you’re in a rush.

Here are four ways to supercharge your headlines in a hurry. Remember these are starting points – you’ll want to juice your headlines up even more to excite and entice your readers.

1) Offer a solution ~
For example: If you don’t have time to cook, let us do it for you!
Offering a solution solves your prospects’ problems, making it more likely customers will respond.
2) Tell them how ~
How to lose 10 pounds in one week without crazy diets or excessive exercise.
By explaining how your prospect can do something of significance you’ll pique their curiosity. Promise a benefit and make sure you can keep your promises.
3) Ask a question ~
Do you want to save money so you can stretch your dollar further in this economy?
Questions engage the consumer. They have to think about the answer and if it’s something they’re interested in they’ll read on (so choose your questions wisely). Make your questions provocative to engage the brain.
4) Give a number ~
3 Ways we can save you money today without sacrificing your quality of life.
Quantifiable results are appealing. Offering numbered steps or actionable and measurable results based products or services helps show consumers how they will benefit.
5) Don’t forget to punch your headline up with a pre-head or a sub-head for extra impact.

For example:

A pre-head to attract a specific segment of your market:

Attention Single Moms Who Need Help Making Ends Meet ~

Headline: 3 Ways we can save you money today without sacrificing your quality of life.

A sub-head to support the content of the headline:

“Finally there’s a system to uncover extra money to create a savings plan without cutting ANYTHING from your current budget.”

Again, these are simply basic suggestions and serve as a guide for juicer headlines. Be sure to take your time and play around with the format that works best for your product, services or offer. Take a minute to review your headlines today.

Read on ~ Book Review ~ twitter Revolution ~ How Social Media and Mobile Marketing is Changing the Way we Do Business and Market Online by Deborah Micek @CoachDeb & Warren Whitlock @WarrenWhitlock

Here’s a book I think might interest you:

twitter Revolution ~ How Social Media and Mobile Marketing is Changing the Way we Do Business and Market Online by Deborah Micek @CoachDeb & Warren Whitlock @WarrenWhitlock

If you don’t have tweeps, aren’t familiar with the twitterverse or haven’t started tweeting, it’s time to get on board with the twitter Revolution.

Twitter is a micro-blogging site unparalleled to any other platform on the Internet today. In 140 characters or less tweeps connect with one another to share information, build relationships and yes, do business.

Admittedly, I know just enough to be dangerous when it comes to technology. So, I was thrilled to find @CoachDeb and @WarrenWhitlock had created, what I refer to as “the ultimate twitter handbook” aka twitter Revolution (which is a very real book with a virtual twist – meaning chapters are continued and ever-evolving on-line – very clever indeed).

In twitter Revolution, I learned all things twitter and highly recommend you grab a copy if you want to get up to speed fast. (Yes, this specifically means my friends and acquaintances who have scoffed at the thought that twitter is a viable means of connection for both personal and business reasons.)

The book is well laid out and includes four sections:

1. Twitter Guide to Understanding Twitter and Getting Started with the Communications Revolution
2. Success on Twitter
3. Influence and Persuasion to Position & Brand Yourself on Twitter and Other Social Networks
4. iChapters – the Twitter Playbook

You’ll find great tips to get started, really embrace social networking and solid examples of how twitter works.

The bottom line is, it’s really all about relationships. I’m excited to dive in and start implementing the techniques I learned in twitter Revolution.

Twitter has expanded my thinking, connected me with lucrative business contacts (leading to paid gigs & guest appearances on teleseminars), given me a fun outlet to connect with likeminded friends and tweet about health, Wii, wine, cooking and other things I’m passionate about. Plus, I’m able to give back by sharing knowledge and tips with other tweeps.

If you’ve been resisting and are not quite ready to jump on the social media band wagon (which by the way, isn’t a passing fad), you’ll want to grab twitter Revolution and get started today. When you do, be sure to add me to your tweeps on twitter @WriteOnCreative.

What Have You Done to Stretch Yourself Lately?

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

By: Lisa Manyon www.lisamanyon.com

Personally, I’ve been traveling and investing in my business. One of my most recent investments was a spur of the moment dash to get insight from master copywriters in San Francisco at the Marketing Rebel Hot Seat event in February.

Two of my favorite tidbits from John Carlton:

1) There is money out in the ether that belongs to you

2) Money = applause

Think about that for a minute. Copy helps you claim the $$$ that belongs to you and using copy effectively brings in more money…That’s how you truly measure success. It’s great to feel good about what you do but even better to feel good about what you do and make a profit.

Honestly I have so much information swimming around in my head after the hot seat event; I’m almost not sure where to begin. But I do want to share what I’ve been processing and urge you to push yourself beyond your comfort zone.

One of my favorite sayings is “never resist a temporary inconvenience if it results in a permanent improvement.” My spur of the moment business investment and trip to San Fran proved to be quite the permanent improvement. The Marketing Rebel Hot Seats delivered more than I expected and was well worth the investment.

Like I said, I’m still processing everything I learned from the masters. In fact, if you haven’t made a point of spending time with people who are in the top of your industry – I strongly urge you to add that to your “to do” list and actually do it!

Here’s a little insider info about what happens on the Hot Seat – bottom line – your business is put up on the chopping block. Despite what this might sound like, it’s not a bad thing. In fact, I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything at this point. Fresh perspective is invaluable.

You do need to be thick skinned because you and your business are on display – the good – the bad – and the ugly. The best part is you’re being analyzed, reviewed and supported (with tough love) by a group of insanely intelligent masters of their marketing and copywriting craft. Imagine being surrounded by people you’ve studied from afar and always looked up to. Now imagine they’re all doling out advice about what you can do to be better. It almost takes my breath away just thinking about it. My head is certainly still spinning from all of the input and I know I only retained maybe one quarter of it at the time of the event – I cannot wait to see the video so I can really soak it in!

Three more things I walked away with (and there’s even more but I know you’re busy and some of it I cannot share)…

1) It’s time for me to step it up and stop trading hours for dollars (yes, I’d heard it a million times before BUT this time – I was given actionable steps to make it happen and real examples of how I was basically giving my time away.) ~
2) Although I LOVE writing and am very passionate about it – my true gift may actually lie somewhere else (stay tuned for details.)~
3) If you’re comfortable where you are in your career it’s time to kick it up a notch (seriously – continual growth and stimulation is imperative for true success and happiness. I’m ready to take it to the next level, are you?)~

What are you working on? What have you done to propel your career forward, lately? I’d really like to know.
