So, last month I mentioned I’d been digging deep into my music collection to load tunes onto my cool, new purple Nano iPod. Well, I’m still at it and this means you get to find out what some of my oldies but goodies are.

This month I’m rocking to The Best of Big Country. If this music is before your time, it’s NOT country music. I especially love the title track – In a Big Country… So, grab your copy here, take a listen, and let me know what you think.

Headline Copy Tweaks You Can Make Today to Increase Sales Tomorrow

Friday, February 20th, 2009

By: Lisa Manyon www.lisamanyon.com

So, you’ve already determined your copy (the written part of any marketing material) is the secret to sales success. Now, let’s take it a step further.
Do you know what people read first – practically EVERYTIME they read your copy?
It’s your headline. Studies have shown that your headline is the single most important part of any of your marketing, advertising and promotional materials. Think of it as your welcome mat, the tidbit you throw out there to entice people to want more.

Here are two quick examples:

A) Would you like to earn more money?
Chances are this question piqued your interest if you’re motivated by money.

B) How to make the world a better place in 5 easy, proven steps.
If you’re conscious entrepreneur, this may have piqued your interest.

These headlines could actually both use some more sizzle, but do you see where I’m going with this? You not only have to pique interest, you need to know who you’re talking to and what motivates them or your readers won’t take the next step - and in the case of copy – that’s moving on to read your offer and the ultimately purchasing your product or service.

Headlines should illustrate an immediate result, solution or benefit and leave your audience wanting more. In fact, you headline should stand alone – make a statement of its own and lead your audience into the content. Create headlines to draw your audience in and then keep their interest with strong sales copy.

How strong are your headlines? Do they draw your readers in and leave them wanting more? Review your current copy with a fresh eye. Are your headlines working for you?

New Book Features Emerging Trends for Online Businesses — Relationships, New Technology and Building Conscious Businesses Are a Common Thread for Internet Marketing in 2009

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Hot on the heels of the December Entrepreneur magazine ?€?2009 Trend?€? issue focusing on lucrative opportunities in a down economy, The International Association of Web Entrepreneurs released a book of similar topic. “The Official AWE Guide 2009 — Emerging Trends Every Entrepreneur Must Know” features insight from 17 experts. Two of the contributing authors, Lisa Manyon and Susan Daffron, reside in Idaho. Given the small population of Idaho, it’s interesting that 10% of the featured experts are Idaho citizens and 94% of experts run woman-owned businesses.

One of the featured experts is Lisa Manyon, www.LisaManyon.com, of Write On ~ Creative Writing Services, LLC. in Lewiston, Idaho. She is the AWE Copywriting Expert and authored a chapter entitled “How the Ever Changing Landscape of Internet Marketing Affects Your Message and Why You Must Adapt.?€?

The Official AWE Guide 2009 — Emerging Trends Every Entrepreneur Must Know” highlights trends to build and grow your online business. Experts were selected based on real-world knowledge and excellence in their respective fields. The top three reoccurring trends for 2009 are developing relations, building and running a “conscious” business and integrating new technologies.

Sheri McConnell, President and CEO of The International Association of Web Entrepreneurs shares, “When I asked each of the experts to write a chapter on upcoming trends in their area of expertise, it was exciting to see how many similarities appeared in their predictions, even when the industries were not related at all.”

Lisa Manyon says, “This is a quality compilation of insight from talented, credible people. It isn’t a “buy your own credibility book” where contributors are required to purchase space to be included. Personally, I wouldn’t have participated if were any other way.”

AWE Web Development Expert Susan Daffron of Logical Expressions, Inc. adds, “Although paying to be included in anthologies is becoming a common publishing trend, it?€™s really just a form of subsidy publishing, and not in keeping with the standards of the AWE. I helped compile the book, and it was great to see how enthusiastic everyone was about the project. The result is a book packed with helpful insights for online entrepreneurs.

The Official AWE Guide 2009 — Emerging Trends Every Entrepreneur Must Know?€? is now available at the International Association of Web Entrepreneurs Web site at www.AweConnect.com. The book is included with membership to the International Association of Web Entrepreneurs or can be purchased separately for $24.

What’s Your Take on the Recession & How are You Taking it?

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

By: Lisa Manyon www.lisamanyon.com

Whether we like it or not, the current state of the economy is all over the news. I try not to let reports of the doom and gloom get to me and at the same time it’s hitting home. A couple of my friends have recently been laid off due to budget cuts and slower time. Each of them worked for bricks and mortar establishments.

While I feel extremely blessed to be doing what I do, I am not immune to the pain they are feeling. I’m a firm believer we can choose to embrace change and ultimately it usually ends up for the better. At the same it can still be quite a transition.

This theme seems to have carried over into many of my favorite trade magazines, too. This isn’t surprising since the recession has been splattered across the media for quite some time now. What I’m impressed with is the content and slant these publications chose to implement.

  • Customer Relationship Management magazine dedicated the February cover to the recession. Their article “Hold Onto Your Customers” offers innovative solutions to retain team members and customers”.
  • Entrepreneur magazine shares an inspiring article entitled “Laid Off in 2008? Start a Business in 2009 – 3 Budding Entrepreneurs Share How They Made the Most Of Their Recent Job Losses.” Within this article is a handy do’s and don’ts for people who have recently been laid off and are considering starting their own business.
  • eM+C (eMarketingandCommerce.com) showcases an article called “6 Recession-Proof Pointers” One of their tips that most sticks with me is to drive customers to your website not your storefront. I say this because many of my friends in traditional bricks and mortar businesses haven’t harnessed the full power of the internet as a relationship building and money-making too. Now IS the time.
  • So, what’s your take on what’s happening with your economy? How are you taking it? I choose to remain optimistic and provide support to those who need me most. I’m thrilled to see my favorite trade magazines offering useful information instead of jumping on the doom and gloom bandwagon. Certainly we must all take note of what is happening. At the same time our individual reactions can also contribute to the new solutions. Your thoughts?
