In business just as in our personal lives, it?€™s important to surround ourselves with like- minded people who support our core values and well being. And if these relationships cross over into both realms of our lives, that?€™s even better.?  Of course it?€™s important to have healthy boundaries and at the same time, it?€™s entirely possible to forge lasting friendships and business partnerships.

I thought it Christina's Visit 1was an appropriate time to blog about this since my dear friend and business colleague Christina Merkley recently dropped by for a visit. I was particularly excited about this because she lives and works in Canada and I hadn?€™t seen her since September. Not only is Christina a fantastic person she has the coolest graphic coaching business around. I recently completed her home study course and I?€™m so glad that I did. I can?€™t even begin to tell you how it has impacted my life but I do encourage you to check out what she has to offer here www.Shift-it-coach.com . Also be on the lookout for some fun new collaborative projects coming soon.

Recently Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero asked me if I would act as a team leader during her Red Hot Copywriting Bootcamp!

Of course, I said ?€?YES!?€?

What a fantastic opportunity and a real honor.

Being familiar with the quality of training, I jumped on the opportunity to be involved. This helps me refine my writing skills (no matter how good you are, it?€™s important to continue to learn new tricks of the trade).

Plus, I?€™m able to exercise leadership skills and network with a truly remarkable group of people. I?€™ll keep you posted on how our team does. We?€™re in the midst of a friendly competition and it?€™s been really fun so far.

As you can probably tell, I?€™m big fan of Lorrie?€™s work. I?€™ve completed her home study course Red Hot Copy to Woo Your Target Market, attended her Speed Copywriting Live Event and invested in personal mentorship with her. But, she isn?€™t my only mentor. In fact, (more…)

Email Etiquette ~ 6 Key Guidelines to Consider Before you Hit Send

Friday, March 9th, 2007

By: Lisa Manyon www.writeoncreative.com

For many, email correspondence has improved business efficiency on many levels. Sending an email can save time and money as well as provide a virtual ?€?paper trail?€? of information sent and received.

While the internet and email can provide quick and easy access to information and interactions, there are some issues of etiquette to consider. First, not all computer users view email the same way. Some people use email for business purposes only, others for a social outlet and sometimes a balance between the two. It?€™s important to know what people on your email contact list want to receive and what they don?€™t.

Many businesses have strict electronic communication policies that prohibit inappropriate content and clearly state that information created and distributed from workplace computers is the property of the company. While common, this can cause some issues. What some deem inappropriate, others do not and determining appropriate content can become a grey area. Oftentimes, when an email is sent from work the employee doesn?€™t think of the ?€?big picture?€? ramifications.

Here?€™s an example. (more…)

Get Your Blog On ~

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

By: Lisa Manyon www.writeoncreative.com

I’m relatively new to the blogging scene. In fact, not so long ago (the beginning of 2006 or so) to be exact, I asked my web guru “What’s up with this RSS stuff?”

I’m not going to share the technical explanation I received but I will say she drilled it down so I would understand just how impactful a blog presence with RSS could be.

After that, I realized that I needed to get my blog on (similar to getting a groove on, I guess). And really, the more I think about it, blogs do provide quite the business groove. They speed up internet presence and search engine ranking if optimized properly.

I find that I’m somewhat technologically challenged but since my blog launched in September of 2006, my internet presence has greatly increased.

Go ahead, Google me. I dare you! (more…)

Do Typos Matter? Asks Bob Bly?€¦

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

By: Lisa Manyon www.writeoncreative.com

I admit that I love to follow blog postings. I especially enjoy blog postings about copywriting since the written word is a passion of mine.

Recently copywriter, Bob Bly, posted a blog entry about typos.

I read it and responded (tossing in a few intentional typos to see if anyone took notice or responded). Personally, I was sprinkling in a bit of my own humor. Which, in hindsight, I realize not everyone will ?€?get?€? or appreciate. After all, not everyone understands the ?€?conversation in my head.?€?(If you don?€™t understand this statement, you need to hire a professional copywriter, immediately).

Nonetheless, typos are a topic of concern and exactly why it?€™s so important to use spell check and enlist an editor/proofreader.

With the immediacy of electronic communications, hiring an editor/proofreader isn?€™t always possible. But, it?€™s certainly something we should all consider. I?€™ve touched on a few more tips about electronic communications in an article I wrote about email etiquette.

Speaking of email etiquette, is there ?€?blog etiquette?€?? I don?€™t think Miss Manners has come out with a guide for the electronic age but this posting from Erin Blaskie is particularly insightful in relationship to the impact that blog postings can have?€¦http://bsetc.ca/blog/?p=117
