Computer SOS Solutions Made Simple

One phone call was all it took to get my computer system running at full speed again. It leaves me wondering why I didn’t pick up the phone sooner.

I called The Computer Chip because my computer was REALLY slow. I’m a bit technologically challenged. I know enough to be dangerous and I’ve needed someone to come straighten out my system out for sometime. I’m also a procrastinator when it comes to technology. Most of the time it causes a bit of information overload for me. It’s almost as if my hard drive is full when the techno-speak begins, I wouldn’t be surprised if my eyes glaze over.

I’ve actually been carrying Chip’s card around for sometime because his dad recommended him (and I trust his dad, we serve on the board of Willow Center for Grieving Children together). Then, I was complaining (now, that’s really going to make a difference) about my slow system to my sister in law, Teresa (who ROCKS, by the way) and she produced one of Chip’s cards, ensured me he does a good job(not that I didn’t trust the endorsement from his dad).

So, I made the call and now I’m happily computing at the speed of light. Well, not quite, but certainly productivity has improved

Start up was slow. I mean SUPER slow. We’re talking five minutes to boot up at turn on and I finally became so frustrated I made the call.

Looking back, I wonder how much time I wasted by not calling in help right when I first needed it. I believe that entrepreneurs often overlook the help that’s right in front of them. We underestimate the power of having a team of experts to come to the rescue. And we procrastinate. In doing so, we lose valuable time. Waiting for my computer to boot up for an extra five minutes a day for several months add up. I could have written drafts for quite a few projects in that time. This brings me to my next point.

Not only is it important to have a regular computer guy or gal, especially if you’re technologically challenged like me, it’s also important to use your time wisely. The best book I’ve read on the subject is No B.S. Time Management for Entrepreneurs by Dan Kennedy. The subtitle claims the book is “The Ultimate, no holds barred, kick butt, take no prisoners guide to time productivity and sanity.” I’m not arguing with that, I’m just kicking myself that I didn’t apply the tactics sooner to avoid the time wasting computer ordeal. I did however take a minute to review some of the key points of the book and it reminded me that I need to stay on track and keep focused on the goals at hand.

How much time are you wasting? Have you put processes in place to help you maximize productivity?
