What Have You Learned Lately?~

By: Lisa Manyon www.writeoncreative.com

Life is a continual lesson. Recently my article 7 Surefire Signs of a Virtual Violation & 5 Ways to Avoid It has made it’s way through cyberspace to help others avoid similar situations. I’m excited to announce that it’s been featured in Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero’s Red Hot Copy e-zine Copywriting TNT  Jenna Glatzer chose to share it with her subscribers at Absolute Write and Stephanie Chandler featured the article on BusinessInfoGuide.com. Plus, Media Bistro Editor Claire Zulkey has added a link  at MBToolBox.

I’m happy that my misfortune can help others. I’m also intrigued by the varying responses I’ve received from the article. Some people loved the article and “got it” in the current form, one person told me there was little to no value in the content with only one good, solid point. Another stated the event was not believable (believe me this happened and trust me, I’m not thrilled about it). Others liked the idea but related the word “virtual” to being “almost” instead of “an on-line happening”.The differing responses remind me of the importance of word choice (see the articles section of my site and read What Are Your Words Worth?). Readers each have different frames of reference. Interestingly, the people who “got it” as is, are female. The person who related “virtual” as being “almost” was male (and had some really good points). Anyway, my point is that no matter what you write, someone will take issue with it, misunderstand it, love it or hate it. That is just an occupational hazard. It’s also extremely interesting. I love to find out what makes people tick.

There are ways to get better at writing and the best way is to continue to write. Get feedback from anyone who will give it to you and listen. I plan to do just that at the Speed Copywriting event in September. Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero (learn more from her Red Hot blog ) is putting on a fantastic three day event in Redondo Beach California. Yes, even after my *Virtual Violation, I’m jumping back on a plane in hope of broadening my horizon. Of course I’ve followed my own advice and know this is for real. I’ve signed up for a bonus day with John Carlton (check out his blog Big Damn Blog) and I’m excited to learn from the masters.

Speaking of blogs, Seattle Design Group ROCKS! Thanks to Vera Randall, my blog is customized, up and running. Look forward to some fun things related to my personal interests like golf, wine and more coming soon.

Also, on another really cool note, I was featured as the Main Course in Peter Bowerman’s Well Fed E-Pub (September issue - sign up today and you just might be able to read the entire success story. Be sure to check out his other offerings. I’m currently devouring The Well-Fed Self-Publisher). Peter is awesome!

CHEERS and here’s to your continued success. Oh, and be cyber-safe. Check out these resources if you think you’re being scammed online.

Cyber crimes can be reported to the official site of The Internet Crime Complaint Center (a partnership between the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center). A site recommended by the FBI is Looks Too Good To Be True. Complaints may also be filed with the FTC.
