• Businesswoman Writing on White Board and Businessman at TableWhile it’s true that you need a website, you also need a strategic marketing plan for your website, a content strategy plan and individual marketing plans for all of your offerings. If you fail to put these strategies in place you will fall into the trap of unrealistic website expectations.  That’s why it’s vital to have clear web marketing strategies.

    I firmly believe that copy is QUEEN and strategy is KING when it comes to your marketing content both online and offline. I must admit that I’m shocked by how many people “think” they have a solid strategy in place but they are missing vital elements of their marketing strategy. These missing elements coupled with unrealistic web expectations are the biggest reasons why people struggle with less than desirable marketing results.

    In order to market successfully online you need to be CLEAR about these 3  web marketing strategies you must have to market your business, products and services.

    1. Your overall strategic marketing plan for your website is an all-encompassing look at what you want your website to do. It’s the main purpose of your site. For example, my site is meant to position me as an expert in the field of copy, content and  business strategy while promoting individual offerings.

    MP900444333[1]2. Your content strategy plan is an editorial calendar of what you want to educate your audience about (assuming you’re using content marketing and relationship building techniques via ezine opt in or consistent blogging). This is what guides the content you create based on your strategy and your BIG vision. For example, my BIG vision is to change the way we market forever (so you get better results) by sharing my history making marketing philosophies as seen in Inc. Magazine. This means I write about marketing techniques based on my values, personal mission, professional mission and BIG vision to educate and build relationships while sharing my NEW Marketing Model for Success.     3. Your individual marketing plans are just that. Individual marketing plans for each of your products and offerings. Yes, you need an individual plan for everything you market. If you offer service based packages you’ll need a plan and strategy to market your services. If you offer products, training, books and beyond, you need a marketing plan for each of those offerings.     The individual marketing plans are where unrealistic web expectations come into play most often. This is because once your website is built you may expect it to generate results just by existing and that is NOT going to happen. You might also expect your website to promote events and other offerings that require an off-line marketing approach (hint: you’ll need another plan for that).

      Good points. People think their website will do it all – but the other parts are equally if not more important. Having a website doesn’t get you off the hook about thinking strategically.

    4. Marketing – and doing it smartly with a plan and a clear strategy in place – is critical to the success of your business online. Merely having a webite won’t do much for you, but marketing it, marketing your blog, and marketing the products, programs, and services you offer on the site will do wonders!
